Is Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — all berries are safe and beneficial in pregnancy.
What the evidence says
All fresh berries are safe and recommended in pregnancy as part of the "5 a day." Wash thoroughly before eating, especially strawberries and raspberries, which can hold soil or pesticide residue. Frozen berries are equally nutritious — freeze-point suspends degradation and kills most pathogens.
Why this matters
Berries provide antioxidants, vitamin C, folate, and fibre. Washing removes any soil-borne contamination risk.
