Is Herbal teas safe in pregnancy?

Safe with limits

Most are fine in moderation; a few should be avoided or timed.

What the evidence says

Most herbal teas (ginger, peppermint, lemon) are safe in moderation — up to 4 cups per day. Raspberry leaf tea is often avoided in the first trimester and only used from 32 weeks under midwife guidance. Avoid teas containing liquorice root, sage, or unknown "detox" blends. When in doubt, check the ingredients or ask your midwife.

Why this matters

Herbal teas vary widely in their active compounds. Some herbs have hormonal or uterine effects that are best avoided in pregnancy.
