Is Ice cream safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — shop-bought ice cream is safe in pregnancy.
What the evidence says
Shop-bought ice cream from reputable manufacturers is safe during pregnancy because it is made with pasteurised ingredients. Homemade ice cream that contains raw egg should only be made with British Lion eggs. Soft-serve ice cream from machines is also generally safe in the UK, though some advice prefers scooped ice cream over soft-serve from poorly maintained machines.
Why this matters
Commercial ice cream uses pasteurised dairy and egg. Concerns arise only with raw-egg homemade versions or poorly maintained dispensers.
