Is Artificial sweeteners safe in pregnancy?

Generally safe

Most approved sweeteners are safe in normal amounts.

What the evidence says

Artificial sweeteners approved for use in the UK — including aspartame, sucralose, stevia, and saccharin — are considered safe in normal amounts during pregnancy. The exception is cyclamate (banned in some countries) and any unregulated "natural" sweeteners. Most UK food labels will only show approved sweeteners.

Why this matters

Approved sweeteners have been tested for pregnancy safety at typical intake levels.
