Is Prawns safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes, as long as they are thoroughly cooked.
What the evidence says
Cooked prawns are safe in pregnancy. Check that they are pink and steaming hot right through — not partially cooked. Cold prawns from reputable sources (e.g. supermarket sandwiches) are also fine as long as they were fully cooked before chilling.
Why this matters
Cooking destroys bacteria like Listeria. Raw or undercooked shellfish can cause food poisoning, which is riskier in pregnancy.
