Is Salmon safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — aim for 1–2 portions per week.
What the evidence says
Cooked salmon is not just safe in pregnancy — it is actively recommended. Oily fish provides omega-3 fatty acids that support fetal brain and eye development. The NHS advises 1–2 portions of oily fish per week during pregnancy (no more than 2, because of other contaminants).
Why this matters
Salmon is rich in omega-3 (DHA/EPA) and vitamin D, both important in pregnancy. Mercury levels in salmon are low.
