Is Chilli / hot peppers safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — chilli is safe and does not cause labour.
What the evidence says
Chilli and hot peppers are safe in pregnancy. They can worsen heartburn, particularly in the third trimester, but they do not affect the baby and do not induce labour. If they make you uncomfortable, reduce; otherwise, enjoy.
Why this matters
Capsaicin does not cross the placenta in physiologically relevant amounts. The "spicy food starts labour" myth is not supported by evidence.
